Activate Local Help System
From Director Online Wiki
The new help system in Director 11.5 is the same used in the CS4 set of applications. Maybe you have already noticed, that the help system used by CS4 applications takes you to the Internet (web based help), with all pros and cons.
You can switch the help system from its default behavior to the local help files that actually are available but not used.
You want to switch specific applications of the CS4 (and Director 11.5) series to local help?
- Go to your programs folder
- Search for the folder "Common Files\Adobe\Help", where you'll see a couple of language folders inside.
- Go to the language folder that fits to the language of your software and you'll find your application
- Open the folder for the application you want to switch to local help
- There (or inside another subfolder), you'll see a file called "helpmapBaseUrl.txt"
- Rename or delete the file "helpmapBaseUrl.txt"
- Now the help system used by the application will be the local help
You are on Windows and want to globally switch all CS4 applications (and Director 11.5) to local help?
- Run "regedit.exe"
- Search the treeview for "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe"
- Change the value of the key "AdobeOnlineDefault" to 0
- Restart your application(s) and you'll have the local help system available
You are on Mac and want to globally switch all CS4 applications (and Director 11.5) to local help?
- Run /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
- Enter the following command: defaults write com.adobe.AdobeOnlineHelp AdobeOnlineDefault '0'
- Restart the application and you'll get the local help
